In May 2011 we were delighted to hear that our funding application to the Big Lottery2Reaching Communities" fund was successful. A grant of £251,505, was awarded (over five years) for the 'Making a Difference' project which will provide opportunities for people to study new academic subjects, pursue new leisure interests, pursue volunteering opportunities and improve skills and employment opportunities.
The Big Lottery Fund distributes 46 per cent of the National Lottery good cause funding across the UK for projects that make real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.
This grant will have a huge impact upon the Centre and the community as a whole. Working in partnership with St Helens Adult & Community Learning, St. Helens Healthy Living Programme and the Workers Educational Association, the grant will allow us to deliver courses and activities in response to identified needs, The project will sustain, develop and enhance existing services by providing a greater choice, a natural progression to higher levels and qualifications and greater accessibility - with evening courses and services. |

We are proud of the work we do and the service and opportunities we provide the local community. We have gained credibility and respect locally and borough wide. Here's what people think about us:-
Les - The Community Centre was originally Wargrave Infant school. I attended as a schoolboy in 1927 and stayed fourteen years before I left to move to the big school. The Centre goes back a long way, it opened in 1987. I started volunteering in 1984 - the place was a right mess. Only half a roof, no windows and all of the wooden floors were ruined. I started helping out at the Centre with lots of other local people when it was derelict to make it into the Centre it is today. It took us two and a half years, seven days a week of sheer hard graft but the end result was worth it. It has become the heart of the community and we are all really proud of what we do. It is obviously a very big part of my life, it gives me a sense of purpose and belonging.
We are experiencing a few technical problems uploading photos - normal service will be resumed ASAP! |
